Ferrari drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, completed more than 620 kilometers of running at Imola on Tuesday as the Scuderia helped Pirelli evaluate prototype tyres for the 2027 Formula 1 season.
Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Hamilton drove during the morning session before Leclerc took over the Ferrari in the afternoon as Pirelli continued development work on its future tyre range.
The program focused on the three softest compounds under evaluation, the C3, C4 and C5.
Both Ferrari drivers completed five-lap performance runs using multiple versions of each compound before Pirelli selected its preferred specifications for longer runs.
Hamilton completed 64 laps of the 4.909-km Imola circuit, covering 314 kilometers. The Briton recorded a fastest lap of 1:19.485.
Leclerc added another 63 laps and 309 kilometres during the afternoon session, setting the faster time of the day with a 1:18.832.
The combined program gave Ferrari and Pirelli 127 laps of data as the Italian tyre manufacturer works towards finalizing its specifications for the 2027 Formula 1 season.
Conditions were hot throughout the opening day of the test, with track temperatures reaching a peak of 50 degrees Celsius and the air temperature rising to 32 degrees.
Testing at Imola will continue on Wednesday, when Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi is scheduled to take over driving duties for the Italian team.
The Visa Cash App Racing Bulls team will also join the program, with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad sharing the team’s car as Pirelli continues its development work for the 2027 Formula 1 tyre regulations.
The latest Pirelli test took place in the aftermath of the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix that took place last weekend. The Italian tyre manufacturer also conducted a test at Mugello back in August as Red Bull Racing, McLaren, and Audi took part. Audi, Alpine and Aston Martin conducted a third test for Pirelli in Budapest back in July. (Reporting by Agnes Carlier)
