It’s official, Tom Steinfort and Sylvia Jeffreys are the new hosts of Today, with the news confirmed on Thursday morning that they will take up the permanent roles on Thursday morning.
The announcement came as breaking news on Thursday, with newsreader Jayne Azzopardi sharing the big news.

Behind the desk both Jeffreys and Steinfort were delighted to confirm they’ll be making their spots on the show permanent.
“I’ve had the pleasure of being part of the Today family for nearly 15 years and it’s always felt like home. It’s an honour to continue the legacy of this programme, to be welcomed into the homes of our audience, and to steer the show into a new era alongside Tom,” Jeffreys said in a statement.
“Australians turn to Nine when big stories break and we are fully committed to bringing our audience the trusted news, entertainment and great Aussie characters that Today is famous for. We are excited to launch straight in.”
Steinfort echoed the same feelings and said he’s “pumped” to be taking on the hosting gig permanently.
“I never thought I’d be this pumped to be getting up at 3am every day, but it’s a privilege to be part of such an iconic show. Where else can you be grilling the Prime Minister one minute, then making an absolute goose of yourself the next?!” he said in a statement.
“And I’m thrilled to be doing this alongside Sylvia – she’s a brilliant broadcaster, a great mate and a lot of fun. We have an incredible team around us, and such a loyal audience… I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
With Jeffreys joining Today, Belinda Russell will permanently join David Campbell as host of Today Extra.
And with Steinfort’s appointment, Alicia Loxley will continue hosting 9News Melbourne’s 6pm weeknight bulletin.

The new hosts are both pumped to be taking on the job, and the 3am starts. Nine
The confirmation of their roles came a day after Sarah Abo announced she was leaving Today and the Nine Network.
Abo, 39, who is currently on maternity leave, will leave to pursue other opportunities.
“Words can’t express how grateful I am to our viewers for letting me into your homes to be part of your morning routine,” said Abo, in a statement released on Wednesday.
“Without you, there is no Today show.”
