Robert died from oesophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59.
But oesophagitis and oesophageal cancer are different conditions.
The University of Washington’s Division of Gastroenterology states that chronic oesophagitis is a “very common condition caused by acid gastric juice regurgitating into the oesophagus (reflux)”.
It added that “about 1 in 10 reflux patients will develop a complication called Barrett’s oesophagus, in which the normal lining of the oesophagus is replaced by one prone to cancer”.
Kim’s health was a focus of The Kardashians’ 2025 season premiere when the SKIMS founder revealed she had suffered a brain aneurysm after an MRI scan.
Kim told her family: “There was a little aneurysm.”
Her 47-year-old sister, Kourtney Kardashian, reacted: “Whoa!” before Kim added: “They [the doctors] were like: ‘[It’s] just stress.’”
An aneurysm is a swelling in a blood vessel in the brain, and most small aneurysms do not need treatment if they are not causing symptoms.

The Kardashians teaser then cut to Kim talking about the turbulent time she went through as her marriage to 49-year-old rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, crumbled.
She said: “I’m happy it’s over. My ex will be in my life no matter what. We have four kids together.”
In the first episode of season seven, Kim is seen talking about her relationship with Kanye and their divorce, revealing she has felt “pretty tested” by him, and the stress prompted a flare-up of the skin condition, psoriasis.
She said: “I haven’t had psoriasis since I got divorced, and it just started coming back. I mean, I have psoriasis again. I felt more stressed, probably just because I had to super, super protect what I had to protect.”
The pair divorced in 2021, and they are parents to North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and 7-year-old Psalm.
The eighth season of The Kardashians premieres on Hulu on October 8.
