Isle of Man teenager Lucy Barnett makes history after winning the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for August 2026 following her Continental Cup blitz.
Isle of Man all-rounder Lucy Barnett made her mark on the international women’s cricket scene on Thursday, having been named ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August 2026. The 19-year-old sensation beat off strong competition from Thailand stars Suleeporn Laomi and Nannapat Koncharoenkai in the global fan vote to become the first Islander to receive the honour.
“I think this award will show that there is a pathway for cricket on the Isle of Man and hopefully encourage more people to get involved and help to grow the game,” Barnett declared.
The 19-year-old sensation claimed the accolade following an astonishing all-round display in the 2026 Women’s Continental Cup in Moara Vlasiei, Romania. Barnett led her side to the tournament final and was named Player of the Tournament as the Isle of Man finished as runners-up to Turkey in the dramatic contest.

Domination In Continental Cup Showdowns
Right-hander Barnett was in red hot form in Romania, smashing bowling attacks for sixes as she topped the scoring charts with 257 runs across four T20Is to finish as the competition’s leading run-scorer. The star’s blistering strike rate of 178.47 complemented an equally impressive average of 128.50. She kicked off proceedings with an unbeaten 71 to help crush Romania inside 14 overs before launching the campaign’s most important knock of the week with an unbeaten 123 off just 64 balls against Norway.
Barnett’s attacking impact was not restricted to the top order as the 19-year-old showcased her tactical acumen with the ball in hand to pick up four wickets while restricting the opposition to an economy of 3.80 and a bowling average of 14.25. The right-armer again played a starring role in the final against Turkey, hitting 59 with the bat and grabbing two scalps for 22 with the ball. Two-way impact at this strike rate is unheard of in women’s international cricket.
Star Player To Watch Out For In Associate Cricket
This latest achievement only serves as a reminder of Barnett’s potential as an Associate player. The teenager made her international debut at 16 in 2022 and smashed a number of world records for Women’s T20I cricket last year by becoming the fastest and youngest player ever to reach 1,000 Women’s T20I runs.
Her rise as a star player has paralleled a growing domestic game and a burgeoning national women’s game. The Isle of Man national women’s team was only created four years ago and entered the 2026 Women’s Continental Cup with seven teenage players and seven new to the tournament. Nevertheless, there is a long way to go if the Islanders are to compete seriously with the established nations. Barnett’s amazing achievement will only serve as a wake-up call to the wider cricketing world that there are emerging Associate stars who can test the credentials of the traditional powers.
