Baltimore, a city in desperate need of colour and vibrancy, was flooded with both on the morning of September 12.

The city’s waterfront was so jammed with Springboks fans wearing green that it looked like a lawn was being laid.

South Africans were everywhere, with enough Afrikaans being spoken to
suggest it was mostly expats who had come to Baltimore for the chance to see the Springboks make history.
