Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and rising star Sakshi Chaudhary will headline India’s boxing challenge at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

India will field an 11-member boxing contingent at the Games, comprising five women and six men.

The team features a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talents, with Lovlina Borgohain, former Asian champion Parveen Hooda as well as Commonwealth Games medallists Sakshi Chaudhary, Narender Berwal and Jadumani Singh in the mix.

Men: Jadumani Singh (55kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Sumit Kundu (70kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg), Kapil Pokhariya (90kg), Narender Berwal (+90kg)

Lovlina Borgohain heads into Aichi-Nagoya as one of India’s most decorated boxers. The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist and former world champion won silver at the Hangzhou 2023 and will compete in the women’s 75kg category.

Having missed out on direct qualification through the Asian Boxing Championships after failing to reach the final in Ulaanbaatar, Lovlina Borgohain secured her spot in the Asian Games team by beating Sanamacha Chanu in the 75kg final at the national trials.

Sakshi Chaudhary will be another boxer to keep an eye on in Japan and heads into the continental showpiece having won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. 

She made the Asian Games squad after defeating reigning 48kg world champion Minakshi Hooda 5-0 in the 51kg final at the trials and had earlier stunned two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen 4-1 in the semi-finals.

Priya Ghanghas and Preeti Pawar, also gold medallists from the Commonwealth Games 2026, and world championships bronze medallist Parveen Hooda are the other Indian boxers in the women’s event.

Preeti Pawar had also won a bronze medal at the previous edition of the Asian Games.

In the men’s draw, Sachin Siwach, Jadumani Singh, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal head into the Asian Games on the back of medal-winning performances at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. 

Narender is also the only Indian male boxer who won a medal at the 2023 Asian Games.
