DETAILS have emerged regarding the post-race event designed to keep the Repco Bathurst 1000 festivities rolling on for an extra day this year.

Lap 162: The Great Race Cool Down will be held in town on Monday October 12, made possible by a $185,000 grant provided by the New South Wales state government to Bathurst Regional Council.

The day will include a parade for the winning drivers, a special Q&A segment hosted by Supercars commentator Richard Craill, and a concert headlined by Aussie rockers The Angels, with The Choirboys among the support cast.

Major sponsor of the event will be none other than the HDT brand, tying in nicely with general celebrations of Peter Brock 20 years on from his death.

“HDT and Bathurst have unfinished business. Contributing to this event seemed like a pretty good place to start,” said a HDT spokesperson.

Bathurst Mayor Ben Fry said: “The Bathurst 1000 is one of the great weeks on the Australian sporting calendar, and this year we’re adding one more lap.

“Lap 162 is about giving visitors a genuine reason to stay in Bathurst for another day, spend some more time in our CBD and then head home outside the traditional post-race departure peak.

“It’s a relatively simple idea, but one that can deliver a number of benefits at once; a better experience for race fans, more trade for local businesses and a more spread-out departure from Bathurst while the Great Western Highway remains under pressure.

“The CBD will be buzzing with activations throughout the day.”
