A seal has been spotted at a beach on Vanuatu’s easternmost island of Futuna, far from its frosty habitat at the edges of the Antarctic circle.
This is the second seal sighting in the tropical South Pacific in the last few months.
Futuna island resident and administration official Alvan Natuoivi says the visitor drew a crowd.
“Most of the people, they are shocked,” he said. “Because it’s a new animal to them.”
