Microsoft is preparing to roll out a new tier of Xbox rewards that mirrors Sony’s long-standing Platinum trophy system, and early software builds suggest the feature will arrive with a markedly more theatrical audio cue than the standard achievement chime.

Dubbed Mythic Achievements, the new designation appears in a recent update to the Xbox PC app. According to data uncovered in the application, players will earn a Mythic Achievement once they complete every achievement in a given game — the equivalent of reaching 100% Gamerscore. The unlock is accompanied by a roughly 15-second audio sequence that swells, builds, and reverberates, a far grander treatment than the brief ping that accompanies regular or even rare achievements.

Xbox Insiders have already begun spotting references to the feature in early dashboard builds. Players will be able to track Mythic Achievements through the Xbox interface and display their total count on their profiles, giving completionists a new metric to showcase.

The groundwork for this rollout was laid last month, when Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the platform would introduce a Platinum trophy equivalent before the end of the year. Microsoft has not yet made an official announcement about Mythic Achievements, but their appearance in shipping software indicates a formal reveal is likely imminent.

The feature arrives at a turbulent moment for Xbox. The Mythic Achievement data appeared in the PC app on the same day Microsoft disclosed it was eliminating 268 positions across its Xbox workforce. The company also signaled it would likely shutter Ninja Theory, the studio behind Hellblade, while shifting oversight of flagship franchises including Halo, Sea of Thieves, and Age of Empires to Activision.

Xbox pioneered standardized achievement systems when it launched them on the Xbox 360 in 2005. The concept proved influential enough that Valve introduced Steam achievements two years later, and Sony added Trophies to the PlayStation 3 in 2008. Sony’s Platinum Trophy — awarded when a player unlocks every other trophy in a title — has since become a badge of dedication that fans collect and compare.

Microsoft has not specified when Mythic Achievements will be available across the Xbox ecosystem, but the presence of the feature and its accompanying sound file in publicly distributed software suggests the wait will be short.
