Behind TV’s favourite supernatural sitcom lay a dark trail of off-screen drama, tragic financial collapses, and massive real estate fortunes.
While Bewitched brought magic into millions of living rooms throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the financial fates of its main cast members could not have been more different.
From multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills estates to an iconic actor who died with just $1,500 to his name, here is where the stars of Bewitched ended up and how much they left behind.

Erin Murphy (Tabitha Stephens)
Net worth: Approx $US1m ($1.5m)
Playing little Tabitha Stephens, Erin Murphy managed to avoid the infamous child-star curse by pivoting into savvy real estate investments.
Murphy, now 62, earned $US400 per episode, with 10 per cent automatically placed into a trust account.
“When I turned 21, I bought a house, bought a horse, and lived on a little ranch,” Murphy said.
She later bought and sold several high-value residential properties across Southern California, including homes in Malibu and Bell Canyon, financed through her alpaca farm and artisanal ice-pop business.

Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha Stephens)
Net worth at death: $US10m ($A15m)
Elizabeth Montgomery was television royalty both on and off screen.
Unlike many 1960s stars burned by bad studio contracts, Montgomery was a shrewd businesswoman who secured a percentage ownership of Bewitched.
The deal generated an endless stream of syndication royalties for decades.
At the time of her death in 1995, Montgomery held an enviable property portfolio.
Her assets included a 26-room mansion in Beverly Hills, a custom-built five-bedroom lakefront estate in Agoura Hills, and her parents’ 20-acre estate in Putnam County, New York.

Dick York (Darrin Stephens #1)
Net worth at death: $US1,000 ($A1,500)
Dick York’s rise to global stardom as Samantha’s mortal husband Darrin ended in one of the most heartbreaking downfalls in Hollywood history.
Before his death from emphysema in 1992 at age 63, the former TV icon was living off a $US650 ($A975) monthly actor’s pension and using an oxygen tank to breathe.
York’s tragedy began on the set of the 1959 film They Came to Cordura, where he suffered a severe spine injury.
The chronic pain plagued him on the set of Bewitched, eventually leading to a collapse during filming in 1969.
He left the show and sank into an 18-month, bedridden addiction to prescription painkillers.

After quitting the drugs cold turkey, York sank his remaining savings into an apartment building project that went bankrupt.
“Dick York was financially and physically destitute,” biographer Herbie J. Pilato told Fox News.
“He just did not have the money anymore. His career had dried up. He was in very poor health.
“There were no more calls for acting. It was tough to watch.”
Desperate for income, the former prime-time star was forced to take work as an apartment cleaner.
“He went from being a star of one of the biggest TV shows in history to cleaning toilets,” Pilato said.
“It was humbling for him, and he never complained about it, but it should not have happened.”
Facing mounting medical bills, York was forced to sell his family home in Los Angeles for $US31,000 ($A46,500) and move his family into a small cottage in Michigan.

Dick Sargent (Darrin Stephens #2)
Net worth at death: Approx $US1.5m ($A2.2m)
Stepping into the role of “Darrin #2” in 1969, Dick Sargent maintained a steady television career spanning four decades.
Sargent resided in a two-storey home in the Hollywood Hills before passing away from cancer in 1994.

Agnes Moorehead (Endora)
Net worth at death: $US400,000 ($A600,000)
Agnes Moorehead, who played Samantha’s overbearing mother Endora, was already a Hollywood legend before Bewitched, having starred in Orson Welles’ iconic Citizen Kane.
At the time of her death in 1974, the screen icon owned a sprawling historic estate in Beverly Hills alongside a family farm in Muskingum County, Ohio.
However, she completely cut her adopted son, Sean Lee, out of her will — explicitly declaring in legal documents that she had no surviving children.
Moorehead and her former husband, John Griffith Lee, had taken Sean in as a child, but the relationship fractured when he ran away from home in the late 1960s.
After falling completely out of touch, Moorehead refused to legally recognise him as her child when drafting her final wishes, leaving him strictly nothing.
Instead, the TV star left her fortune and property portfolio to her mother, various charities, and her domestic staff.

David and Greg Mandel-Bloch (Adam Stephens)
Net worth: Undisclosed
Twin child actors David and Greg Mandel-Bloch shared the role of Samantha’s son, Adam.
Their parents retired them from show business immediately after the series wrapped in 1972.
At age 14, the twins discovered they were adopted, later claiming their biological parents were Hollywood icon Tony Curtis and beauty queen Peggy Potter.
The brothers stepped away from Hollywood to run a restaurant together, with David later working as a head chef and Greg as a production assistant.
David reportedly resides near Palm Springs in the Coachella Valley desert.
