Dino Beganovic eased to victory in the F2 Sprint Race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after cruising past polesitter and championship leader Nikola Tsolov at the start of Lap 6 of 21.
Laurens van Hoepen finished second, and Alex Dunne rounded out the podium positions at the Baku City Circuit from P10 on the grid, ahead of Martinius Stenshorne and Tsolov.
Mari Boya was spun into the wall and retirement at the second corner, with Rafael Camara tagging him on the rear after locking up. It triggered an early safety car and a 10-second time penalty for the Brazilian driver.
Despite his deficit in the standings to Tsolov growing to 11 points, the Ferrari junior will be pleased to have passed his title rival on track, who dropped back with rear tyre wear issues, and he will start ahead of the Red Bull academy driver in both feature races.
A late safety car after Joshua Dürksen hit the wall at Turn 1 cost his Invicta Racing team-mate dearly, wiping out the gap Camara had built to those behind him in pursuit of points.
He opted to pit from fourth on the road and serve his punishment in the pits, ultimately taking the chequered flag in P16.
There was chaos at the restart for a final-lap shootout, caused by Oliver Goethe, who misjudged his braking point, taking out Gabriele Mini, who was on the cusp of a much-needed point for his championship aspirations.
Ritomo Miyata and Noel Leon clashed, too, preventing either driver from completing the race, with their cars left stranded at Turn 1.
