Over 1,600 homes and businesses in Moville and its surrounding areas can now connect to high-speed fibre broadband.
The new high-speed fibre broadband lines have been installed by National Broadband Ireland (NBI) on behalf of the Government, as part of their nationwide rollout.
There are 1,647 premises in Moville, Redcastle, Greencastle, and the surrounding areas that are part of this latest rollout. The Moville catchment area was due to receive an investment of €5 million for the upgrade works to take place.
The National Broadband (NBP) Survey in Inishowen reached completion in 2023. It was estimated that a total of 6,227 homes or businesses were still waiting to be connected to the grid on the peninsula. The South Inishowen survey showed that 1,961 residents were waiting to be installed.
Moville and the surrounding areas were estimated to be waiting for the installation of 1,362 customers on the fibre optic broadband. An extra 285 people have now been added, with 1,647 homes and businesses in east Inishowen able to connect to high-speed fibre broadband. The North Inishowen surveys showed that 2904 have to be added to the network.
Those premises form part of the 34,000 in Donegal that are set to receive new high-speed connections under the plan, with minimum speeds of 500 megabits a second being provided. A fifth of those premises are in the Inishowen area of the county.
NBI says that a total of 23,889 premises in Donegal can now pre-order or order a high-speed connection as a result of the scheme so far, an increase from 5,793 two years ago.

In advance of the Fibre-to-the-Home rollout, the NBP has been providing for the delivery of broadband connection points. There are [995 BCPs) nationwide, with three of these WIFI points in Inishowen. Carrowmenagh Community Centre in East Inishowen, Malin Head in North Inishowen, and Fort Dunree in South Inishowen. These zones will pave the way for rural communities to receive the benefits of broadband, which will provide free public access to high-speed internet in the rollout areas.
They also say that network build works are continuing across the county, with North and South Inishowen expected to be connected before the end of the year.
NBI is appealing to people living in the Moville area to visit nbi.ie/map/ and enter their Eircode to see if they are ready to connect.
