For banks around the world, including Australia’s largest institutions, the threat of rogue artificial intelligence agents causing real-time system issues, or even financial chaos, has become very real.
Banks, which are heavily regulated, typically have cyber defences that are extremely difficult to penetrate. Even so, revelations over the past week about AI agents accessing Medicare data, and bots targeting a raft of other government websites, would have bank chief risk officers on high alert.
