Huawei has launched its new Watch GT 7 series, putting a stronger focus on outdoor activities, fitness tracking and battery life.This year’s line-up consists of the Huawei Watch GT 7 in 41mm and 46mm sizes, alongside the more premium Watch GT 7 Pro in 46mm. Prices start at $348, and will be available from 1 October onwards.
Design-wise, Huawei is sticking with the same circular look that has come to defined the GT series. The standard Watch GT 7 comes in several colour and strap combinations, while the GT 7 Pro gets a nano-tech ceramic bezel and titanium alloy middle frame for a more premium finish.
The more interesting additions this year are on the sports-tracking side.
For the first time, the Watch GT series supports indoor skiing and snowboarding, using its sensors to detect activity even when GPS is unavailable. The watch can track metrics such as distance, speed, total descent and active training time, while separating actual runs from rest periods and time spent travelling back up the slope. This may sound like a niche feature for Singapore, but indoor snow sports facilities isn’t as uncommon as you think – there are a couple of indoor ski and snowboard training centres here in Singapore. Those heading overseas can also download maps for more than 3,000 ski resorts through the Huawei Health app.
Cyclists get several new tools too, including Climb Planning, wbich previews upcoming climbs and could be my favourite feature. There’s also Climb Broadcast for real-time gradient and remaining-distance information, and also Sharp Turn Alerts – which provide haptic and voice warnings when approaching bends at higher speeds.
Battery life remains the key selling point, though. Fans will be happy to hear that Huawei claims the Watch GT 7 Pro and 46mm Watch GT 7 can last up to 21 days under light usage, while the 41mm model is rated for up to 14 days.
