President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated the Iranian Astronomy Olympiad team for clinching the world championship title for the second consecutive year.

The Iranian team secured the world championship at the 18th edition of the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Mumbai, India, where over 300 high school students from 64 countries competed, by notching up a clean sweep of five prestigious gold medals.

In a note on Friday, Pezeshkian congratulated the team on their remarkable achievement, highlighting the dedication and hard work of these young talents who continue to bring pride and distinction to their nation.

“The glorious success of the national astronomy and astrophysics team of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the world championship, and winning the title for the second year in a row, once again showcased the knowledge, perseverance, and high aspirations of our youth on the global stage, bringing pride and honor to the entire nation of Iran,” the president said.

“This inspiring victory, achieved through the round-the-clock efforts of the talented and future-building youth of this land, is proof that our younger generation can shine in any field they choose and raise the proud flag of Iran to the highest peaks of progress and honor,” he added.

“Undoubtedly, this valuable success is the result of the unwavering efforts of the insightful families of these students, dedicated coaches, and all those involved in the field of education who have created the conditions for growth and flourishing with their commitment and sense of responsibility,” Pezeshkian said.

Pezeshkian also expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting national talents.

“The administration, believing in the capabilities of our youth, is seriously committed to supporting outstanding talents and transforming Iran into a regional hub for science and technology.”

The IOAA is an annual competition for high school students focused on astronomy and astrophysics, and it is part of the International Science Olympiads.

The distinguished members of Iran’s national team in this round of the Olympiad, held from August 11 to 21, were Ali Naderi, Hossein Masoumi, Hirbod Foodazi, Arshia Mirshamsi Kakhaki, and Hossein Soltani.

The Iranian team demonstrated exceptional skills, scooping all five gold medals and securing first place at the 2025 world science competition in India.
