Tony Popovic and the Socceroos are preparing for a fired-up Brazil in their second friendly at Suncorp Stadium, with the five-time World Cup champions copping backlash for their Townsville draw.Live updates below!
The Socceroos came within moments of a massive upset on Friday after a stunning Nestory Irankunda goal gave them a 1-0 lead in the second half, only to give up an equalising header in the final seconds.
Nevertheless, the reaction in Brazil to the 1-1 draw has been intense, with iconic commentator Galvao Bueno labelling their performance a “disgrace”.

“Disappointing, frustrating, the first match of the national team in this new cycle!!” Bueno wrote on X.
“Just a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the limited Australian national team!! Even worse: the equaliser goal, by Rayan, came in the very last play of the match!! Ancelotti will have to work hard to fix this team!! Will it be possible to fix it??”
The Socceroos are bracing for a chastened Brazilian bounce-back in Brisbane, with fears of a repeat of the 1997 Confederations Cup, when they responded to a 0-0 draw to Australia with a 6-0 annihilation in a rematch a week later.

Manager Tony Popovic is well aware of the threat, telling reporters his team will need to improve on their strong performance in Townsville to stand a chance.
“Whether they can lift again and put in a better performance, I feel that we will have to be better than what we were to be able to get a result in the next match,” he said.
“That’s taking nothing away from what we did; it was a very good performance. But we should also look to see what areas we can improve in.
“It’s all the little details that make the difference.”
