The Anti-Dumping Commission has been reborn as the Australian Trade Remedies Commission (ATRC), adding safeguard inquiries to its responsibilities.
Previously the responsibility of the Productivity Commission, safeguard inquiries look at remedies to protect Australian industries from potentially harmful trade practices.
The ATRC consolidates safeguard powers with the Anti-Dumping Commission’s previous dumping and subsidy investigation powers.
Industry and Innovation Minister Tim Ayres said the reforms are about giving workers and manufacturers a simple path to action.
“When Australian industries are hit by unfairly dumped or subsidised imports, we need a system that’s ready to back local businesses, local jobs, and the communities that depend on them,” he said.
