Heading into the second episode of Survivor 51, committed allies Devin Way and Brady Booker had just split their votes in a disagreement about how the first Toka Tribal Council should go. Devin and Jelly Loblack were the only players to prefer ousting Jenna Doore, who Devin suspected of lying about her occupation, over their Helicopter Alliance partner Aaliyah Puglia, who Brady helped orchestrate to be the first player eliminated in the “Open Era.”
Despite the divide in their objectives, Devin and Brady affirm their faith in one another at the start of a fresh day. While their shared leadership at the Toka camp continues to blossom, multiple injuries, sleep deprivation, challenge loss frustration, and general paranoia plague the early stage of the game on both tribes. At the second Tribal Council, one player attempts to save another through a “never been done before” move that has the potential to change their tribe’s mentality for the rest of the game.
Read on for our recap of all the important moments from Episode 2 of Survivor 51, titled “Weaponized Honesty,” which aired Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. PT on CBS.

At Toka
Following the first Tribal Council, where Aaliyah was sent packing, Lewis Kelly returns from Exile Island to become the newest member of Toka. He feels unsure about his place in a group that has already enjoyed three days of bonding; after telling the group the story of his journey, Danny Kilby questions the claim that Lewis arrived from Exile Island without some sort of advantage.
After reaffirming his partnership with Devin, Brady expands his role as one of the leaders of the tribe by playing the role of provider, but that unfortunately leads to him chopping off a quarter of his thumb with the machete. Not only is his tribe immediately impressed by his lack of panic over the serious injury, but so is Jeff Probst.
In his Field Notes about the event published on social media after the episode, Jeff addresses the rare decision to break the fourth wall by showing Brady’s interactions with production. “In this case we felt it was essential as the details of [his conversation with a producer] spoke to the state of Brady’s mindset,” the host wrote. “His only concern was if he was in danger of being pulled, not the obvious pain he was in.” Jeff also noted Brady’s “great sense of humor” and the unusual ask to keep the detached portion of his thumb on ice so that it could become what Jeff calls a “one-of-a-kind Survivor souvenir.” In the end, Brady is not removed and with medication and bandages is able to play through the injury to remain active in the game.
With Brady on the mend and the tribe enjoying newly won comfort rewards, Jelly finds time to go on what becomes a successful Hidden Immunity Idol search. Already close with Devin within the Day 1 Helicopter Alliance, but keenly aware of his “weaponized honesty” mindset, Jelly makes the decision to withhold information about her idol from him and instead discloses it to Patt Cannaday. Drawn in by this to fully trust each other, Patt and Jelly cement themselves in the center of new five-person alliance that includes Devin, Brady, and Mike Pinsky.
At Savu

Even without the pressure of a looming vote, Ana Sani emerges on Day 4 as an agent of chaos at Savu by casually throwing out the names of Sharonda Cox and Linnea Capobianco to Alexis Levine. When Alexis walks in on a conversation where Ana is talking about her to Carter Krull, Alexis ditches her trust in Ana and tells Sharonda and Linnea about her intentions, setting off a chain reaction of paranoia among the tribe. Though most of the tribe is still on board with casting Eric Macksoud out first because they find him annoying, Sharonda becomes very interested in keeping Ana on the radar.
Later on, after Savu loses the Reward Challenge that involves pairs navigating a series of obstacles while one of them is blindfolded, Rob Antonson grills Linnea over her decisions that he believes contributed to their loss. Instead of Rob’s attitude highlighting the reasons why Linnea should be on the chopping block, many in the tribe question his increasingly erratic behavior.
In that same challenge loss, Kristin Flickinger suffers a brutal fall from a cargo net that she immediately clocks as a potentially game-ending injury to her foot. For the time being, Kristin manages to nurse the injury using a local medicinal herb that she researched prior to the game, vowing to remain in the game “no matter what, hard stop.”
Immunity Challenge

In a torrential rain-drenched Immunity Challenge requiring the two tribes to transport a 500-pound whale over a water obstacle, Toka takes a commanding lead over Savu in the sea and then easily manages to complete their blowout win over Savu on land. Strong individual showings from Devin, Mike, and Maggie at the end of the challenge protect the tribe from having to attend back-to-back Tribal Councils.
During a post-challenge assessment, Rob surprises his Savu tribemates by commenting that even he was on the verge of wanting to give up, in stark contrast to the way he reacted to their Reward Challenge loss. Rob provides context to his feelings in a confessional later on where he acknowledges that he misses his family and the comforts back home and might seriously consider “sacrificing” his position in the game by voting for himself.
Committed to the bit as an agent of chaos to her own detriment and believing that everyone is on board with a straightforward consensus vote against Eric, Ana suggests herself to the group as the name they should give him as who to vote out. Already uneasy about Ana throwing out the names of Sharonda and Linnea, Alexis overhears a conversation between Ori Jean-Charles and Carter about crabs and misinterprets it as them scheming about a potential blindside. Based on a perceived alliance between Ori, Carter, Ana, and Rob, the women enact a plan to pull in a majority of votes to target Ana instead of Eric.
Tribal Council

Ahead of Tribal Council, Rob pulls Eric aside to loop him in on a plan he’s been stewing over. Instead of giving Eric any specific details about what he has in mind, Rob asks Eric to give him his Shot in the Dark and then do whatever he asks of him at Tribal Council. “We’re gonna make history tonight,” Rob tells him. “What I want to do for you, I don’t think it’s ever been done before.”
At Tribal Council, Ori urges his tribemates to “take the layup” with their first vote, having been briefed by Sharonda earlier in the day about a possible switch from Eric to Ana. Before Jeff calls the tribe to their vote, Rob asks to speak with Eric privately where he tells him that “Ana is a fake vote” and “they’re all after you.” The plan is for Eric to play his Shot in the Dark, but if it’s unsuccessful then Rob has an idol and is prepared to play it on Eric’s behalf. A few moments later when Rob steps up to the voting booth, he writes his own name on the parchment only to be told by a member of production that he can’t and must vote for someone else.
Thrown off from what seems to be a plan to play an idol for Eric and vote himself into a tie with Ana where he’d supposedly sacrifice himself, Rob retreats into voting for Eric and does not in fact use his idol on him. As it turns out, Eric didn’t need Rob’s plan anyway because only Rob, Ori, Ana, and Carter write his name. In the end, by a 6-4 vote, Ana is left blindsided and becomes the second player eliminated from the game.
