Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce has confirmed that his character Todd Grimshaw will reignite his friendship with fellow Weatherfield resident James Bailey.
Todd and James became close last year, and even started running together. However, their friendship was dashed by Todd’s jealous and abusive boyfriend Theo Silverton, who exerted his coercive control over Todd by forbidding him to see James.

Speaking exclusively to us at Inside Soap at the Inside Soap Awards after taking home the Best Actor award, Gareth teased Todd’s future, and that while the two are set to become pals again, he can’t reveal whether romance could be on the cards for them.
“Definitely we’re bringing the humour and some of that villainous streak back. Now, he’s still going out a bit too much but possibly with a happier heart.
“James is a good friend at this stage – I know that some of our audience are going to wonder if there’s romance there. They haven’t told me yet, so I can’t give a spoiler!”
Not only did Gareth win Best Actor for his portrayal of Todd this year, his character’s domestic abuse at the hand of Theo also won Best Storyline, with Gareth’s co-star James Cartwright, who played Theo, being awarded Best Villain.

“He was unflinching in tracking that journey,” Gareth said of James. “I think they chose an outwardly confident character to show the ways that coercive control can really shrink someone, but James also committed really well to that villainous side of Theo, and that’s a brilliant foil for me to work with.
“James and I knowing each other before Corrie helped – you always want trust and shorthand, and the ability to have a laugh when you need it.”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
