Kahlil Benson arrived at One Arrowhead Drive in the spring for a tryout with no guarantees beyond Rookie Minicamp weekend. Four months later, Benson is being recognized as one of the top rookies in the league.

Benson was named the NFL “Offensive Rookie of the Month” for September on Thursday after starting each of the Chiefs’ three games at left tackle. Benson allowed just three pressures in each of those games, and for the year, the former Indiana University standout has yet to yield a sack.

The rookie offensive tackle is the first member of the Chiefs to earn a “Rookie of the Month” award since linebacker Nick Bolton did so in 2021 (October), and he’s the first offensive player to win the award since tailback Kareem Hunt in 2017 (December).
