In September 2026, Steam received $1.7 billion in revenue – a record for this month, surpassing last year’s result of $1.5 billion. Overall, Alinea Analytics predicts 2026 will be a record year for the platform, crossing the $20 billion annual revenue mark for the first time.
The third quarter was also a record, with the game store earning $5.5 billion, up 12% from the same period last year. Steam earned $16.5 billion in the first nine months, up 13% from $14.5 billion in revenue last year.
Analysts at Alinea Analytics predict that, taking into account further releases, 2026 will be the first year in the gaming platform’s history in which annual revenue exceeds $20 billion.
Of the 500 top-grossing games on the store, which account for about a third of all revenue in September, 20.5% were brand-new franchises, while the rest were older series. Remasters and remakes made up 3.8%, in particular. Games released in 2026 accounted for 33.6% of revenue.
Free-to-play games accounted for 25.6% of revenue in September 2026. Among them, four games, namely Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, PUBG, and Dota 2, earned $168 million – about 10% of the total revenue for the month.
Wardogs, a top-grossing game in September, is a 100-player tactical first-person shooter with build-and-destroy mechanics. It earned $86.9 million between Sept. 1 and 30. Also on the list were Onimusha: Way of the Sword, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Bodycam, FC 27, How to Fish, and Control Resonant, which made the top 10 despite being released on September 26th.
