PAUL Morris has revealed that his favourite touring car from his racing career was not a five-litre beast nor a V8 Supercar.

Rather, it was the BMW 320i that powered him to the 1997 Australian Super Touring Championship crown.

“My favourite car I ever drove was the BMW I drove in ’97, which was a ’96-spec,” Morris told V8 Sleuth.

“It was an amazing car, very tuneable. It had a ramp-style diff in it.

“There was lots of things you could do with that car to make speed.

“And the updates that kept coming – you had all these teams around the world racing these cars and this information pool, so every time you went to the track there was something new.”

Morris and Craig Baird also crossed the line first in the 1997 AMP Bathurst 1000, only to be excluded on the grounds of a maximum continuous driver time breach.

‘The Dude’ made a total of 339 ATCC/Supercars Championship race starts across a 22-year period, winning two races in a Holden VT Commodore at Calder 2001, and conquering the 2014 Bathurst 1000 with Chaz Mostert in a Ford FG Falcon.

His son Nash will compete in next week’s Great Race, co-driving with PremiAir Racing’s Declan Fraser.
