The Jets ended one of football’s most infamous streaks on Sunday. Their fans will be more than grateful to have seen their side to so.
Defense was once considered New York’s calling card. In recent years, however, the Jets’ defense has looked noticeably less venomous.
No statistic bears out the side’s lack of defensive bite more than the side’s NFL record-long interception-less streak. New York had failed to record a pick under Aaron Glenn prior to Sunday’s game against the Bears. Fortunately, a matchup against Tyson Bagent proved fruitful for the Jets’ secondary — namely, Minkah Fitzpatrick.
With that, here’s what you need to know about New York’s interception-less streak, a run that came to an end atop the Soldier Field pastures on Sunday afternoon.

Jets finally snap NFL record interception-less streak
Fitzpatrick made history when he plucked Tyson Bagent’s errant throw out of the sky, recording New York’s first interception in nearly two years.
The former Steelers standout undercut Colton Loveland’s route, corralling the ball before carrying it deep into Chicago territory.

The interception represented the team’s first takeaway via pick since Ashtyn Davis pilfered then Dolphins‘ quarterback Tyler Huntley in a 32-20 win on Jan. 5, 2025.
Gang Green thought it had ended its infamous streak earlier in the contest. New York’s defense appeared to have forced Bagent into a giveaway with 4:34 left in the first quarter. Defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat snatched a toss to Loveland, only to see his prospective pick overturned due to a penalty.

Fitzpatrick, Sweat and Co. will hope that they can keep their ball-hawking ways going in the weeks to come. The Jets went a NFL-worst 637 days and 636 pass attempts without a theft via interception. They don’t plan on authoring up a streak of a similar length any time soon.
