The Spurs announced Sunday that Tobias Harris suffered a left calf strain in training camp and is now questionable for their regular-season opener on Oct. 20 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Harris will be reevaluated after the preseason and will not suit up for the Spurs’ Silver & Black scrimmage, per Tom Orsborn of San Antonio Express-News.
Tobias Harris suffers calf injury
Tobias Harris signed a two-year, $31 million contract in this year’s free agency to join the San Antonio Spurs.
After spending the past two seasons with the Detroit Pistons, Harris emerged as a huge offseason pickup for the franchise after its historic run to the 2026 NBA Finals.
Harris averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists across 63 appearances to help the Pistons’ 60-win season. He shot 46.9% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point range, while averaging 27.7 minutes per contest.
He is expected to give the Spurs a vital veteran presence and versatility. But right now, his health and availability remain uncertain following the unfortunate calf injury he sustained.
With Tobias Harris out, Spurs will roll main starting five from previous historic season
With Tobias Harris down and uncertain to play for their season opener, the San Antonio Spurs will likely stick with their main group that excelled in the previous NBA season.
San Antonio mainly featured Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Julian Champagnie last year, with rising star Dylan Harper coming off the bench.
The Spurs will play a five-game preseason schedule, beginning on Oct. 8 at home against the Atlanta Hawks.
