The Brisbane march has run into some counter-protesters on its way to Musgrave Park.
ABC Radio Brisbane reporter Kenji Sato snapped a few photos.
A counter-protester has been escorted away by police after snatching a Palestinian flag from a protester.
It was apparently in response to a protester grabbing an Australian flag.
It wasn’t the only heated moment, with people on both sides yelling at each other.

Organisers of the Coffs Harbour rally changed the march route in response to overwhelming numbers on the day.
Just hours before the march was due to take place, spokesperson Zianna Fuad said they planned to walk on the footpath of the main street, until hundreds more than the 200 expected arrived at the beach foreshores.
It’s estimated about 650 people participated.

Police revise Brisbane attendance estimate to 10,000
Queensland Police Service has updated its estimate on the number of people attending the Brisbane rally.
Organisers were expecting 7,000 people before the rally, which was also the number the police have been saying all day.
(ABC News: Kenji Sato)
It’s clear there’s a lot more than that, and QPS now says they think it’s about 10,000.
The organisers are telling us more than 50,000 people are marching in Brisbane this afternoon.

Does Australia sell weapons to Israel?
One of the primary grievances of protesters is that Australia sells items with military use to Israel.
The government says it does not sell weapons to Israel, but it’s a bit murkier than that.

Crowds spilling over in Brisbane
It’s still unclear how many people have turned out in Brisbane today.
Queensland Police are standing by the number they gave us earlier of 7,000, but as you can see that’s starting to look pretty conservative.
The organisers’ estimate of 50,000 looks closer to the reality.

Hundreds take part in Tathra
In Tathra on the New South Wales Far South Coast, more than 500 people took part in a pro-Palestinian march, braving the rain and wind.
Many protestors hailed from across the Bega Valley Shire, with some having driven over an hour to march.
(ABC News)
Pamela Goddard (second from left), originally from New York City, has been living in Tathra for the past seven years.
“I live in Australia, I’m watching what the Albanese government is doing. I’m from America, I’m watching what the Trump government is doing,” she said.
“I want them to know I don’t support it.”
“We’re a small community, but we’re a community, and we’re here to let the Palestinians know that we’re behind them.”
(ABC News)
Amanda Richmond from Bega shared a similar sentiment.
“I feel helpless at what’s happening in Gaza,” she said.
“It’s really important for communities around the world, no matter how big or small they are, to show solidarity.”

Palestine Advocacy Network addresses Hobart crowd(ABC News: Monty Jacka)
In Hobart, the Tasmanian Palestine Advocacy Network, which organised the rally, has addressed the crowd.
“The topic of so-called Palestinian statehood only arises when western leaders are asked to take tangible action on Israel,” the Tasmanian Palestine Advocacy Network said.
“Instead, western governments wield Palestinian recognition as a punishment against Israel, as if basic human rights are conditional.
“This trivialises liberation, reducing it to a bargaining chip.”

Former Australian of the year Grace Tame has given a passionate speech at the rally in Sydney.
Speaking to the crowd at Hyde Park, Tame began by asking protesters: “who is ready to resist?”
“There is another force that power responds to, it is public pressure,” she said.

Police say 7,000 people rallying in Brisbane
The Queensland Police Service says about 7,000 people are attending Brisbane’s rally this afternoon.
Protesters have been gathering in Queens Gardens since about midday, with the rally kicking off shortly after 1pm.
The crowd has spilled over into Elizabeth St, George St and William St, closing roads around the gardens.
Organisers have told us there are 50,000 people in attendance, so the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Representatives from the MEAA — which represents journalists — are also present at the rally.
At least 227 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, according to the UN Human Rights Office, and it remains the deadliest place in the world to be a journalist.
