North Melbourne is reportedly set to unveil Jaymie Graham as its next head coach.

Channel 7 journalist Tom Morris reported on Monday the 43-year-old “interviewed exceptionally last Saturday”, and now has the backing of the club’s panel.

Graham was this year an assistant coach at Fremantle, having played a major role in helping Justin Longmuir and his side get make it through to the Grand Final after finishing the regular season on top of the table.

According to Channel 7 journalist Ryan Daniels, Graham has returned to Melbourne as the club prepares for the “final formalities” before the appointment is made official.

Code Sports reports Graham did a final presentation to the board of directors on Monday.

Morris said the announcement could come as early as this week.

He posted on X there is “just the finer details being formalised behind the scenes”.

The news comes after Collingwood legend Nathan Buckley withdrew himself from the process.

North Melbourne legends John Longmire and Adam Simpson also said they were not going to continue with the process.

It means the Roos are rolling the dice on a rookie coach without experience as a senior coach.

Graham is stepping into the hot seat left vacant by Alastair Clarkson.

The four-time premiership coach was sacked last month following a club football department review.

Graham will be taking over a club that has not won a finals series game since 2015.

Kangaroos assistant coach Xavier Clarke and Hawthorn pair Daniel Giansiracusa and David Hale were considered the other major candidates to take the job.
