The new team completes a full player pathway for women and girls, bridging the gap between the club’s youth section and its established senior squad, the Ipswich Scorpions.

Michaela Taylor, women and girls chair at Ipswich Rugby Club, said: “With two senior women’s sides now in place, every player has a home at Ipswich, from young girls picking up a rugby ball for the first time, to those ready to step into competitive senior rugby.

“The 2nd XV isn’t just about more matches, it’s about creating a complete, sustainable pathway for women’s rugby in Ipswich.”

The Furies will give developing players the chance to play at a competitive level before moving up to the first team, helping to retain and develop talent.

The launch comes as women’s rugby gathers momentum across the UK, fuelled by excitement ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

Ipswich Rugby Club supports the RFU’s Impact ’25 legacy programme, which aims to build lasting benefits for the women’s game through investment in people and facilities.

Amanda Jones, director of women’s rugby at the club, said: “We want Ipswich to be a hub for women’s rugby in Suffolk.

“The launch of our women’s 2nd XV shows that our club is ready not just to welcome new players, but to help them grow, develop and thrive at every stage of their rugby journey.”

The club is inviting new and returning players of all abilities to get involved.

Open training sessions will take place throughout September at Humber Doucy Lane.
