The Parkers posted a pair of handy wins, with Blue defeating Lawn O’Connor 8-80 to 4-61 and White downing Lawn Savage 9-92 to 3-66.
Under a new format comprising six singles and six doubles rubbers, Central Park Blue was tested in the early going by Lawn O’Connor.
A one-two men’s pairing of Harry Allan and Matt Jones defeated Lawn’s August Koch and Aiden Reinheimer, but on the women’s side of the draw Cherie and Sienna Wood pulled out a tough 8-7 tiebreak win against Parkers Eve Wear and Emma Streeter.
The opening singles rubbers were similarly split, with Lawn O’Connor’s Graeme Wood defeating Parker Yassasri Sumanapala 8-2 while Parker Misha Wear downed Daniella Gillespie by the same score to level proceedings.
After the one and three men’s and women’s pairings were split, with the Parkers’ men winning 8-6 and Lawn’s women triumphing by the same score, it was the second doubles frame that turned the day decisively in Central Park Blue’s favour.
Jones beat Reinheimer 8-2 and Streeter was too strong for Sienna Wood in an 8-3 win.
From there it was largely one-way traffic, with the exception of a late 8-1 doubles win from Wood and Gillespie against Streeter and Wear.
In Central Park White’s win against Lawn Savage, the 9-3 set scorelined belied some competitive early rubbers.
Simon Bardell and Frazer Shurdington got White off to a good start with a tiebreak win against Lachlan Punchard and Joel Boyd, but Dylan Thompson struck back for Lawn Savage in the men’s singles with an 8-7 win against Nathan Jensz.
Jensz was involved in another tiebreak in his first doubles set, this time coming out on top alongside Bardell against Punchard and Thompson.
A third tiebreak set went against Jensz when he teamed with Shurdington, coming up just short against Thompson and Boyd.
But the outcome mattered little, with the Parkers holding the ascendancy on the women’s side of the draw.
Lydi Boyd was the only woman to break through for Lawn Savage, defeating Tara McIntyre 8-6 in their singles rubber.
St Michaels topped Kalkee in the most one-sided match of the round, at Kalkee, winning 11-92 to 1-50.
Eli Bailey and Steve Schultz got the Saints off to a good start with an 8-5 doubles win against Kees Jeff and Jordan Friberg.
The Kees struck back in opening women’s doubles rubber, with Keeley Schultz and Meaghan Pohlner besting Mia Rees and Violet McGennisken 8-4.
But despite some competitive play, it was Kalkee’s only set win for the day.
Round two this week will see the Saints attempt to replicate their strong form at home against Central Park White.
Horsham Lawn Savage will host Central Park Blue, and Horsham Lawn O’Connor will welcome a travelling Kalkee.
