Hull City are closing in on a deal to sign Besiktas midfielder Amir Hadziahmetovic in advance of the transfer deadline closing next Monday night, with Tigers head coach Sergej Jakirovic keen to bolster his midfield ranks with a player he knows well.
City can only bring in players once they have moved senior first-team players out, and the imminent departure of winger Abu Kamara has made that possible.
Kamara, who was left out of the squad that were beaten 3-0 by Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, flew to Madrid on Friday to undergo a medical with La Liga side Getafe ahead of a proposed loan move to the Spanish capital. It’s expected that his move will be announced early next week.
His exit enables City to bring in the 28-year-old midfielder. Talks with the Super Lig giant are understood to be at an advanced stage, with the Bosnian international keen on the move to the MKM Stadium, as previously reported.
Tigers owner Acun Ilicali is thought to be leading negotiations with his counterparts at Vodafone Park in a bid to finalise a loan deal early this week, which would see the versitile midfielder spend the season on loan in East Yorkshire.
“Yeah, of course, we need such a profile. He can improve this group for sure, number six or number eight. He has big experience. He’s almost 10 years in Turkey. That shows his quality. Besiktas have brought some players in and he’s searching where he can play. We will try to close this deal,” boss Jakirovic said.
“He’s a number six or a number eight; he can play in the middle. Last year, he played on loan with Rizespor, and then Solskjaer called him back to Besiktas, and for four months, he played for Besiktas.
“Now he’s their fourth or fifth choice in that position. I don’t know the situation now because I haven’t spoken with Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer). He’s a very good player. He’s a national team player, so he will improve the group a lot if he will come. He wants to come for sure.”
City would still like to sign defensive cover after being rocked by injuries to Akin Famewo, Semi Ajayi, and another winger, but any such deals would be entirely dependent on moving first team players out.
