The Philadelphia Eagles have suffered a soul-crushing loss in London to the Jacksonville Jaguars despite taking the lead with just eight seconds on the clock.

It appeared the Eagles would be leaving the UK with a 3-2 record when their kicker Jake Elliott nailed a 48-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining.

However, Jaguars kick returner Ameer Abdullah ran the ensuing kick off back 53 yards and was tackled with a second to spare, which gave his side a chance at a game-winning field goal.

It set up a field-goal attempt from 56 yards for Jaguars kicker Cam Little, who nailed it as time expired.

Eagles coach Nick Siranni has copped heavy criticism for his decision-making late in the game, in particular his call to kick the ball to the Jaguars and giving them a chance to return it.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky was scathing, labelling Siranni’s decision an example of “coaching malpractice”.

“If you do anything, you don’t kick it to Jacksonville. There’s eight seconds left on the clock and the Jaguars have no time-outs,” Orlovsky said.

“Credit to the Jags for the return and the kicker Cam Little. He was the MVP of the game.

“The fact the Eagles kick the ball to Jacksonville. You cannot do that. It’s the only thing you can’t do if you’re Philly.”

To his credit, Siranni fell on his sword in the post-match press conference.

“I didn’t make the right decision, and I lost us that game, and that’s what I said to our guys,” Sirianni said.

“What hurts there is the guys fought so hard, and then I don’t make the decision that I should make at the end of the game and I cost us that game, and I put that one on me.”

It’s the second week in a row the Eagles have coughed up what appeared to be an unassailable lead.

Last week, the Eagles led the LA Rams 20-10 in the fourth quarter before being overrun.

With the win, the Jaguars improve to 4-1 on the season and hold one of the best records in the NFL.

Wide receiver Parker Washington was critical to the win, reeling in 124 yards and two touchdowns from QB Trevor Lawrence.
