Police say it is unclear what caused the death of a woman found on a beach in far north New South Wales.

The body of the 32-year-old woman was discovered about 10am on Saturday at Ten Mile Beach in Iluka.

Police have established a crime scene and are investigating her death.

They are urging anyone who may have been in the Shark Bay area to contact Coffs Harbour Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
