Sucker Punch said that the experience of working on the Ghost of Tsushima expansion helped create the story, characters, and mechanics for Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara.

Developers from Sucker Punch shared how their experience creating the Ghost of Tsushima expansion helped them come up with new storylines, characters, and mechanics for Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara.

Art Director Joanna Wang explained that the team wanted to show a different side of Atsu and focus on combat and player skills.

One of the main challenges was depicting the Battle of Sekigahara. The developers did not aim for a documentary reconstruction, using historical events as a backdrop for the heroine’s personal story. To accurately portray Japanese culture, the studio has been collaborating with a consultant since Ghost of Tsushima.

Technical difficulties arose in creating a large-scale battlefield with soldiers, battles, and dense fog – all of which needed to be combined with smooth gameplay.
