THE high-profile boss of Ford Supercars homologation team Triple Eight remains comfortable that parity was a non-issue in last weekend’s Bathurst 1000.
Parity was the single biggest talking point throughout the Great Race build-up following aerodynamic and Centre of Gravity changes to the Chevrolet, and a last-minute one-off Ford engine tweak to help its Coyote adjust to Mount Panorama’s altitude.
Camaros still dominated in the speed trap, but for the second successive year it was a Mustang on top at the end of 161 racing laps.
That was Dick Johnson Racing’s Brodie Kostecki/Todd Hazelwood, who had been in the box seat before a bungled brake change, only to later capitalise on the fuel mishap that cost Team 18’s Anton De Pasquale/Lee Holdsworth.
Unpacking an Epic Bathurst 1000 | The Undercut
THE Bathurst 1000 once again turned out an all-time classic race, with all of the winners and losers put under the microscope in this episode of The Undercut!
Triple Eight had a somewhat circumspect event on the whole, its Bathurst 1000 victory drought extending to three years after Will Brown/Scott Pye placed second and Broc Feeney/Nick Percat 11th.
“I thought we had an equal shot,” Jamie Whincup told V8 Sleuth when asked to reflect on the parity situation.
“Clearly there were differences between the cars but that’s okay. It’s a tall ask to get all cars identical everywhere.
“As long as overall there’s as much chance for any – and I thought there was an equal chance to win.

“As it showed, it was Ford 1-2; without any errors potentially Brodie still would have won.”
Whincup, in his first year out of the saddle altogether, admitted it was a “disappointing showing” for the #88 side of the garage which struggled with brake woes and a general lack of pace.
“We’ll certainly review that and make sure we understand it. That’s not our scene, coming here and not being a contender,” he said.
Feeney and Brown are second and third respectively in the readjusted points score heading into the opening round of finals on the Gold Coast (October 23-25).
