DON’T expect to see Supercars getting quite so much hangtime at this year’s edition of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
V8 Sleuth understands the spectacular scenes last October whereby cars would frequently get entirely airborne through the beach chicane drew concerns from the FIA.
It’s believed the return of tyre bundles is the most likely measure to be taken to slow cars through that section of track at the October 23-25 event.
That’s something which mightn’t sit all that well with drivers, as expressed by James Courtney who raced in last year’s Surfers Paradise meeting but will be on broadcast duties this time around.

“I know they’re saying the speed is dangerous, but as a driver it felt safer to do it that way,” he said of the 2025 configuration.
“(Having tyre bundles) makes it a lot more challenging for the driver to try to gauge where they are, and then it sort of closes down passing opportunities at (Turn 11).
“It slows them down through there, so it does its job, but then it sort of stops the passing down the other end. It has pros and cons.
“We saw when (James) Golding hit the tyre bundle that year and it caused that massive pile-up.”

Two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Brodie Kostecki shared a similar view last month when looking ahead to Gold Coast.
“We’ve really had no crashes or incidents through the back chicane (lately). The years prior with the tyre bundles there caused some really big crashes actually,” he said.
“It was a really cool spectacle but probably not ideal having cars all four wheels up in the air. But I’m easy, I’m just a race car driver and I’ll drive what’s put beneath me.”
Supercars has yet to officially comment on what course of action will be taken.
Kostecki is one of 10 drivers in the finals fight; three will be eliminated from contention by the end of the Gold Coast 500.
