Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank has stepped out for the first time since announcing she is expecting a baby at 52.

The Hollywood star was all smiles as she was photographed leaving the Drew Barrymore Show in New York City, just one day after she announced her pregnancy.

Swank, who is the mother of twins, a boy and a girl born in April 2023, when she was 48, had her large baby bump on full display for the outing.

The outing came just one day after Swank found a creative way to announce her pregnancy on Instagram, where she shared a video of herself and her family dancing in the dark while using glow sticks taped to their bodies.

Her husband and three-year-old twins, daughter Aya and son Ohm, danced first, before Swank appeared with a baby bump featuring a tiny glow stick-baby.

She uploaded the video with the caption: “A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December”, along with a series of emojis including a baby angel.

Swank took to the comments to thank a follower, who said she was “giving me hope” as she was “39 and childless”.

“I always go by the adage, things happen in their time, not ours, and that has always been the case for me,” she wrote. “But of course, trusting that, for me, has always been the hardest part.”

In an interview published overnight, Swank told People she was “feeling good” as she prepared to welcome her third child. She revealed the baby was due before the year’s end and would be “the best Christmas present”.

Swank has been married to Philip Schneider, who is described as a businessman and social venture entrepreneur, since 2018.

The dual Best Actress Oscar winner, who won in 2000 for her role in Boys Don’t Cry, and again in 2005 for the film Million Dollar Baby, was previously married to fellow actor Chad Lowe.

Swank also took to Instagram in 2023 to announce the birth of her twins, sharing a photo of herself looking over the ocean while holding a baby in each arm.

“It wasn’t easy. But boy (and girl!) was it worth it,” she captioned the photo.

Swank told People in May she had always wanted children but “a lot of things… kept that from happening”.

“I knew I wanted kids someday, but I wasn’t planning what that would look like,” she said.

“It just worked out that I had babies this much later in life. It wasn’t that I didn’t want them earlier.”

She told the publication the upside of being an older mum was that she could “really take time to be with them” and not be concerned about taking a break from her career.

“I know it’s so different for everyone, but for me, if I had had a kid in my 20s or my 30s, I think I’d be a much different parent than I am now,” she continued.

“I feel like I have… [the] ability to really give them my attention in a way that I wouldn’t have as much at that point, because it would’ve been pulled between the two in a very distinct way.

“I have the ability to kind of step in and step out when I choose, and that is just such a blessing.”
