NO driver has more Bathurst 1000 runner-up finishes without having won the Great Race than Scott Pye.

That’s the bittersweet reality now for the man who helped Will Brown to second place last Sunday at the Mountain.

It’s the third time he has been the bridesmaid, having also taken second alongside Warren Luff in the 2017 and 2018 editions.

Pye joins Brad Jones, Glenn Seton and the late Jason Richards in a share for most Bathurst 1000 runner-up results without a top step.

“Stoked to come away with second… three-time runner-up though now at Bathurst and it’s starting to hurt a bit!” said Pye.

“So it just makes me even hungrier to come back here in the future with this amazing team and try and get the W.”

The result did seal the Ryco Enduro Cup trophy for he and Brown, which crucially nets 25 bonus points for the latter to take into the first round of finals next weekend on the Gold Coast.

Pye also highlighted a nice full circle moment with Car #888 race engineer David Cauchi.

“We’ve gone from sharing a house together back in 2012 to doing a Bathurst 1000 together this year which was really good fun,” he said.
