Rosie O’Donnell Sends Direct Message to Donald Trump After Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ Cancellation originally appeared on Parade.

Rosie O’Donnell sent a direct message to President Donald Trump after his response to Stephen Colbert’s Late Show cancellation and the POTUS’ citizenship threat against her.

On July 18, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!”

One week earlier, the president declared he was “giving serious consideration to taking away” O’Donnell’s citizenship because she is “not in the best interests of our Great Country.”

O’Donnell, 63, took to Instagram on Sunday, July 20, with a bold message to Trump, 79, addressing The Late Show and his threats aimed at her.

“Hey tangerine trump,” the former talk show host began. “First you said I should be stripped of my citizenship. Now you’re publicly celebrating that Stephen Colbert lost his job. You’ve never understood the role of comedy — or the role of truth. You think silencing a comedian means you’ve won something. You haven’t.

In her post, O’Donnell continued, “Stephen stood up to you, like so many of us have. Not because it was easy — but because it was necessary. He told the truth with wit and courage, night after night, while you used your platform to spread fear, lies, and hate.”

After accusing Trump of wanting “blind loyalty” over free speech, O’Donnell concluded, “Stephen will be fine. So will I. So will every artist, journalist, immigrant, teacher, parent, and kid who sees through you, your desperate grasp at relevance ur craving for control. Truth isn’t going anywhere. Neither are we.”

In the comments, fans of the A League of Their Own actress lauded her blunt response.

One Instagram user wrote, “Rosie proving the pen is mightier than the sword! xx.”

Another shared, “‘Truth isn’t going anywhere, neither are we’ YES!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.”

Someone else echoed, “Absolutely!!! Thank you for the courage you and others have to speak truth to power!”

Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user commented, “Another mic drop moment. We love you Rosie! 💙.”

On July 17, Colbert, 61, announced to his live Late Show audience in a clip then posted to Instagram that his show would end in May 2026.

“Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending The Late Show in May,” he announced, to which the audience booed. “Yeah, I share your feelings. It’s not just the end of our show but it’s the end of The Late Show on CBS. I’m not being replaced. This is all just going away.”
