Lachlan Shaw will lead the NSW Blues’ first-class team for this first time during this week’s Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia in Perth.

Having led NSW to consecutive victories in the One-Day Cup last month, the 23-year-old Shaw has been entrusted with captaining the Blues’ red-ball team in the absence of Nic Maddinson, who remains in South Africa with the Test squad.

Shaw, who will become the Blues’ 124th first-class captain, rejoins the NSW set-up having returned from the Australia A tour of India alongside teammates Sam Konstas, Josh Philippe, Liam Hatcher, Tanveer Sangha and Ben Dwarshuis.

Brock Fitton, Reiley Mark, Bryce Jackson, Charlie Stobo and Riley Kingsell drop out of the squad.

If selected, Jack Edwards will play his 50th Sheffield Shield match this week, a significant milestone for the all-rounder.

The NSW Blues’ Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia commences at the WACA on Monday at 1.30pm AEDT (10.30am local time). Australian fans can watch the action on cricket.com.au and Kayo Sports.
