Lionsgate
Lionsgate has premiered the first trailer for the astronaut aquatic survival thriller “Above the Below” which both stars and is co-directed by Idris Elba.
After three astronauts survive a disaster in space, their unscheduled crash-landing leaves them trapped in the crushing depths of the ocean with no contact with mission control and oxygen rapidly running out.
In a race against time where every breath could be their last, the crew faces impossible choices, mounting odds, and new dangers in this pulse-pounding story about what we do when faced with the greatest stakes imaginable.
Caitlin FitzGerald and Hero Fiennes Tiffin co-star while Martin Owen co-directs the film from a script by Elizabeth Morris, Matthew Mitchell, and Vicki Sargent.
Elba has indicated that the film was done as practically as possible – the cast learning to hold their breaths for several minutes at a time, along with a full size spacecraft being built and submerged for the shoot.
“Above the Below” opens in cinemas on December 4th.
