Amazon has hit Australian Prime users with a price hike ahead of Christmas, lifting the monthly membership rate by up to 30 per cent.

In a notice distributed to local subscribers, the retail giant attributed the rate adjustment to the expanding catalogue of offerings available on the platform.

Its monthly subscription will rise from $9.99 to $12.99 per month – a 30 per cent jump. The annual subscription will jump from $79 to $99, marking a 24 per cent increase.

“The range of products and benefits available through Prime has continued to grow,” the company stated in its communication to customers.

“To continue supporting this, the price of your Prime membership will change to $12.99 per month.”

New subscribers will cop the higher rate immediately. For existing subscribers, their current cost will remain locked in until the user’s first billing renewal on or after November 25, just in time for Christmas.

Amazon confirmed that the price adjustment will not alter the scope of features included in the subscription.

Members will retain access to standard perks, including free delivery (with same-day shipping on eligible orders), Prime Video, Amazon Music Prime, Prime Reading, cloud gaming via Amazon Luna, and access to exclusive shopping events like Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days, the company stated.

Subscribers are advised to check their upcoming renewal date, request account reminders, or make changes to their subscription plans via the platform’s account management settings ahead of the November deadline.

This is just the latest subscription increase for Australian households. In April Disney+ subscribers copped a second price hike in less than 15 months.

In an email to customers, the popular streaming platform said standard monthly subscriptions would immediately rise by more than 12 per cent from $15.99 to $17.99 per month for new customers, or from the next billing date for existing customers.

Netflix rolled out its second general price increase in under two years in March, raising subscription fees across all available tiers. Standard with Ads increased from $7.99 to $8.99 per month and Premium rose from $24.99 to $26.99 per month.

And Paramount+ kicked off the year with a price hike in January with its Basic tier increasing from $7.99 to $8.00 per month and its Premium tier increasing from $12.99 to $13.99.
