A Hollywood heavyweight has appeared unrecognisable on the streets of Brooklyn.
Dwayne Johnson has been intentionally aged to look like an old man for his new film Lizard Music, taking him from WWE muscle man to bucket-hat donning grandad.
The Rock’s makeup team had truly outdone themselves, adding a very believable grey beard and wrinkles to his chiselled face.
His muscly physique was hidden beneath a boxy beige jacket and a very grandpa-coded fish-covered tie.
According to IMDb, the film will follow a “young boy [who] stumbles upon strange lizard musicians on late-night TV, leading him to befriend a peculiar man with an elderly chicken.”
Johnson has been cast as The Chicken Man, encountered by the young boy (Theo Clark Leber) during his bizarre escapades.
“Their quest for answers reveals hidden worlds and an unlikely but magical friendship,” per the synopsis.
The film is based on Daniel Pinkwater’s famous children’s book, which was once infamously described as “Home Alone on acid”, and is stacked with stars including Jeff Goldblum, Rachel McAdams, Regina Hall, and Alicia Silverstone.
Lizard Music reunites The Rock with director Benny Safdie, who also helmed The Smashing Machine, the A24 film which allowed Johnson to flex his acting muscles in a dramatic and serious context.
It represents a notable deviation from the comedic action roles The Rock has become known for.
Safdie has become well-known for casting actors who have been relegated to certain roles and giving them a chance to break free from their typecasting shackles.
Adam Sandler for instance had become synonymous with Hawaiian shirt comedies before being cast in Safdie’s Uncut Gems.
Robert Pattinson was trying to pivot from enduring associations with Twilight before being cast in the Safdie brother’s extremely gritty crime thriller Good Time.
Lizard Music will be released on Christmas Day, 2027 according to Amazon MGM Studios.
