Luis Francischinelli is a 6’6″ Brazilian striker who somehow makes the 170-pound limit and then fights like the weight cut never happened. He earned his UFC contract on 13 October 2026 with a first-round stoppage of Will Rentz on Dana White’s Contender Series, and every one of his seven professional wins has come by knockout or TKO.
The Lowdown on the Tallest Man in the Room
The tale of the tape reads like a misprint. Francischinelli stands 6’6″ and competes at Welterweight, a division where most men look up at him from somewhere around his collarbone. He was raised in Itu, in the interior of São Paulo state, and fights out of Los Angeles. Kickboxer by trade. His MMA record is 7-1, built almost entirely in LFA, and six of those seven wins finished inside the opening round.
He has no nickname. When a Welterweight is this tall, the commentators supply one every time he walks out.
Itu, an Absent Father and a Sixteen-Year Chase
Francischinelli grew up without his father. His mother held the family together, and when he finally had a UFC deal in his hand he talked about her work and about a hard small-town upbringing that made the moment hit harder. He framed it as the end of a sixteen-year chase.
It started with a skinny kid. Before his LFA title shot, he told Cageside Press he weighed around 125 pounds when he first began training, and that he later competed professionally in Brazil as a kickboxer at 155.
A 6’6″ Lightweight. “It’s crazy, right?” he said.
Three Rounds With a UFC Heavyweight
His size opened the door. According to Bloody Elbow, Francischinelli told MMA Fighting that he once went three rounds in sparring with Alexander Volkov, and the impression he made there got him an introduction to LFA chief Ed Soares.
The coaching came from Chad George, the WEC and Bellator veteran who runs California MMA in Gardena. George has said the Brazilian walked into his gym with very little grappling experience and a dream of fighting in the UFC. The striking was already there. The rest had to be built from the mat up.
Five Fights, Five First-Round Finishes
His LFA run started on 23 June 2023, when he stopped Emmanueli Adzoh with punches at 1:25 of the first round at LFA 161. After that the knockouts kept coming on schedule.
Ken Burrs went at LFA 177 in Niagara Falls on 23 February 2024, finished by a knee and punches late in the first. Greg Sun lasted 50 seconds at LFA 184 in May 2024. Victor Kuiks was knocked out with a single punch at LFA 190 that August. At LFA 208 on 9 May 2025, Angelo Rivera Jr got sniped from range and stopped at 1:59.
That made five pro fights without ever hearing the bell for round two, and after the Rivera finish the online crowd began demanding the UFC sign him.
Niagara Falls and the Rear-Naked Choke
The first real gut check came in a main event. On 21 November 2025, Francischinelli headlined LFA 223 in Niagara Falls against Jonathan Piersma for the vacant LFA Welterweight title.
Piersma had no interest in standing in front of him. He dragged the Brazilian into deep water, held him down and sank a rear-naked choke at 1:22 of the third round. It was the first loss of his career and the first time anyone had survived past the opening round with him.
Resetting the Narrative in Connecticut
He went back to work. At LFA 232 in Mashantucket on 15 May 2026, he faced Travis Arrellano and, for the first time in his career, needed a second round to get his win. A single punch ended it at 2:04.
Next up was supposed to be a headline slot against Jonathan Hanes at LFA 239 in Ventura on 21 August 2026. That fight came off when the Contender Series call arrived.
Two Takedowns and a Left Hand Behind the Ear
On Dana White’s Contender Series at the Meta APEX, the matchmakers handed him exactly the question Piersma had asked. Will Rentz came in at 8-2 on a five-fight win streak and shot for a bodylock straight away, putting the big man on the canvas.
This time Francischinelli had answers. He hunted a heel hook from underneath, threw elbows off his back and climbed to his feet. Rentz got him down again. He stood up again, almost immediately.
Then Rentz came forward one time too many. A counter left landed behind his ear and dropped him, and Francischinelli followed him down with punches until the stoppage at 2:18 of round one.
Sherdog reported that Dana White joked during the contract announcement that the 7-1 Brazilian was “10 feet tall” and called him another fun addition to the 170-pound division.
A Newborn, a Hospital Bed and a Contract
The camp was a mess. He fought through injuries, and his daughter was born less than a month before the fight. He helped deliver her himself.
By fight night, his wife was in hospital.
He was emotional in the cage afterwards, and backstage he told MiddleEasy he had only learned she had been discharged when he rang her after his first interview, though she still faced surgery. She had been separated from their newborn for almost a week. He credited her financial sacrifices for keeping the whole thing afloat.
His coach put it plainly in an Instagram tribute after the contract, writing that Francischinelli “had every reason not to fight” and pushed through anyway.
Home Before the Octagon
He has said he would like to make his UFC debut in early 2027, taking it fight by fight with no opponent in mind. Tall Welterweights have come and gone before. Few of them got taken down twice inside two minutes and still finished the night landing ground-and-pound.
His first plan after signing the contract had nothing to do with fighting. He was going straight back to Los Angeles, to his wife and the daughter he had helped bring into the world a few weeks earlier.
