Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently confirmed she will be the new co-host of Junior MasterChef Australia next year, but sources have claimed she has reservations about the announcement.
On Tuesday, Meghan revealed she would be co-hosting the reality competition alongside cook Poh Ling Yeow after a guest appearance on MasterChef Australia earlier this year.
Markle, 45, said “it was an easy yes” signing up to the show, but according to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice, a source claimed the Duchess was hoping that some of her celebrity friends would be helping her with prime opportunities in Hollywood.
“Meghan imagined Hollywood’s biggest names would be opening doors for her. Instead, she’s taking guest spots on reality television. It’s a long way from the Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney circles she wanted to join,” a source claimed to the outlet.
“Let’s be honest, she’s doing this because the bigger opportunities haven’t materialised,” a source scathingly added.
News24 has contacted a representative of the Duchess for comment, in relation to this story.
In 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for a bombshell TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, and Winfrey also attended the pair’s nuptials at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2018.
They also purchased a lavish mansion in California’s celebrity enclave of Montecito where they have been living in recent years, but they recently relocated with their family to Prince Harry’s home country of the United Kingdom.
Just this week, it was announced that the Duchess would be joining Junior MasterChef Australia as co-host for the show, next year.
“I had an incredible time with the whole team at MasterChef this past April, so when they approached me to come back and work with this young group of talent, it was an easy yes,” she said in a statement.
“I love cooking with my own kids, so seeing what these young stars create in the kitchen is going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see what they cook up!”
It was reported this week that the Victorian government will not be paying for her security when she films the show in Melbourne.
“Not a single cent of Victorian taxpayer money should be spent on this,” Opposition Leader Jess Wilson told The Herald Sun.
Markle has hosted her own show before, having hosted With Love, Meghan, on Netflix, a cooking and lifestyle show.
