Petrol prices have skyrocketed in the aftermath of the Iran war in March 9News
Fuel theft is on the rise across Australia as motorists reach breaking point over the spiralling costs at the bowser.
Following the start of the Iran war in March, the price of petrol and diesel skyrocketed as supplies dwindled with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
After dipping slightly, current fuel costs are significantly higher than the pre-war prices in February, when unleaded and diesel prices sat under $1.81 a litre and $1.95 a litre, respectively.
On average across the capital cities, petrol is currently sitting at $2.33/litre, while diesel ranges between $2.63 per litre to $2.80 a litre, according to Fuel Radar.
This is down from about $2.53 a litre on unleaded petrol in March and highs of $3.20 a litre for diesel.
