A popular outdoor cinema experience will return to Perth just in time for summer nights under the stars and will kick off with a hotly anticipated Hollywood blockbuster.
Moonlight Cinema is back at Kings Park and Botanic Garden on December 3 and will run until March 28, with the first movie of the season to be The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
Fans of the franchise can prepare for the action by settling in on a picnic rug or bean bag at golden hour and taking in the picturesque scenes of Kings Park before revisiting the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games.
The opening weeks also bring new releases including Verity, a psychological thriller starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel.
Austen fans get a fresh take on an old favourite in Sense and Sensibility, with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood and a screenplay by Australian author Diana Reid.
The program also includes The Social Reckoning, Wicker and Wild Horse 9, with preview screenings of A Talent for Murder, starring Helen Mirren, on December 6 and Cat in the Hat on December 30.
Christmas favourites will screen runs from December 11 to December 21, with festive traditions like Love Actually, The Polar Express and Home Alone made extra special under the stars, joined by new release Ebenezer, a ghost story set in Dickens’ London with Johnny Depp as Scrooge.

As school holidays begin, families can also catch Disney’s Hexed on Boxing Day.
EVT general manager of entertainment operations John Boero said a night at Moonlight Cinema begins well before the movie.
“It starts with the journey to one of Australia’s most remarkable parklands, finding the perfect spot on the grass, relaxing with friends and family, sharing your favourite treats and watching the sun go down,” he said.
“Then, as night falls, it’s time to settle in for a great movie under the stars.
“Moonlight Cinema is all about memorable summer nights, and we’re excited to bring them back for another season.”
Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic and drinks but there will be food and beverages available on site.
Dogs are not welcome to attend screenings at Kings Park.
