For most of Australia Friday is forecast to be a relatively dry and sunny day, though severe storms loom across the Northern Territory and South Australia.
News24 Meteorologist Wendy John said most of the storm activity will be in northern Queensland and at the top of the country.
“There is quite a bit of instability throughout Queensland and a couple of troughs also heading down throughout South Australia,” she said.
“In Queensland there is a lot of activity from Mount Isa right through to Longreach, possible thunderstorms.”
Despite the unsettled weather, temperatures in Mount Isa and Longreach are expected to linger between 35C and 32C.
“The conditions might cool down a bit with the onslaught of showers,” John said.
“Further south (in Queensland) really lovely conditions.”
New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania are largely high and dry on Friday.
“New South Wales has a largely dry day,” John said.
“Victoria also has a largely dry day, their wet weather starts on Saturday.”
South Australia is expected to bear the brunt of the country’s rain on Friday.
“You can see instability starting to move towards the east, Port Pirie top of 28C, so those showery conditions are reaching most of the population around lunch time and in the afternoon,” she said.
“There are possible thunderstorms, some of them may be severe throughout the morning and the afternoon.
“Down in the south-west there might be a spattering of showers, we have got some weak lows clipping the bottom of the country.
“Further north it is high and dry, beautiful sunshine and very clear conditions.”
