Japanese stayer Stinger Glass has been ruled out of Tuesday’s Lexus Melbourne Cup after Racing Victoria stewards acted on specialist veterinary advice following CT and PET scans.

The Yasuo Tomomichi-trained galloper has also been stood down from competing for the remainder of the 2026 Spring Racing Carnival after an independent imaging panel determined he was currently at heightened risk of injury.

Stinger Glass had undergone an MRI scan in Japan on August 26 as part of Racing Victoria’s veterinary protocols for international horses.

That scan was reviewed by an independent panel of diagnostic imaging specialists from the UK, USA and Australia, with the horse initially cleared to continue through the veterinary process and travel to Australia.

After completing pre-export quarantine in Japan, Stinger Glass arrived at the Werribee International Horse Centre on October 12 and continued training through his Australian quarantine period.

He was then presented at the University of Melbourne Equine Centre on October 27 for a compulsory CT scan of his distal limbs.
