The upcoming 28th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death could cause fresh tensions between Princes William and Harry as the brothers feud over her legacy.
Diana died aged just 36 in a car crash inside a Paris tunnel on the evening of 31 August, 1997 that also claimed the lives of her then-lover Dodi Fayed and the driver Henri Paul.
Her death sparked a global outpouring of grief and left William and Harry without a mother at ages 15 and 12, respectively.
According to the Daily Beast, Harry’s Archewell production company is reportedly in talks to produce a documentary on Diana ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death in 2027.
“Harry is looking to do a series about Diana in 2027,” a source said.
“They want to get the right partners and we have had a conversation with them.
“I’m sure other production companies have too.
“An inside account of the implosion of Charles and Diana’s marriage, and Harry’s story of Diana’s death and its aftermath would be the TV sensation of all time.”
Both William and Harry participated in a documentary marking the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death in 2017 while Harry was still a working royal.
According to a second source who spoke to the same outlet, William wanted the 2017 project to be his “last word” on his mother’s tragic death.
However, reports Harry could be looking to cash in on the 30th anniversary may force the Prince of Wales to produce a rival documentary.
“If Harry is now going to do another massive Netflix show effectively claiming her legacy, William will have to fight back, whether that’s with an interview or a documentary of his own,” the source said.
“The whole situation is just very sad.”
Safeguarding Diana’s legacy has continued to bring the estranged brothers together despite Harry’s rift from the Prince and Princess of Wales.
In July 2021, both William and Harry jointly attended the unveiling of a statue of Diana inside the sunken garden of Kensington Palace.
The joint appearance came mere months after the Sussexes publicly slammed the royal family in a notorious interview with Oprah Winfrey.
