Hazelwood (#1 Ford Mustang) clawed back crucial championship points, leading home series leader Nathan Herne (#29 Chevrolet Camaro) by 2.25s.
Blake Tracey (#5 Mustang) came home in third place, holding off a hard-charging Jarrod Hughes (#118 Camaro), with Lachlan Evennett (#8 Camaro) rounding out the top five.
After a 55 minute delay due to a torrential downpour, Ayrton Hodson led the way down to Turn 1 having stunned in qualifying to take pole position in his Trans Am debut.
With massive amounts of standing water on the run to Turn 2, the field tiptoed down the short chute after the first corner, where Hodson ran wide, allowing Hazelwood to take the lead at Turn 4.
Hodson struggled in the opening laps, dropping down the order and outside the top five, battling hard with Evennett before the safety car was deployed when Domain Ramsay found his way into the gravel trap at Turn 11.
Cody Brewczynski battled with the conditions, going for a spectacular spin on the entry to Turn 9, recovering to continue at the rear of the field.
Hazelwood led the field away at the restart on Lap 9, building a steady gap over Herne, while Tracey worked his way past Hughes for the final spot on the podium.
Isaac Demellweek came unstuck at Turn 2 the very next lap, making contact with Jack Smith and sending the pair flying through the Turn 2-3 run-off area.
Both drivers recovered to continue just outside the top 10.
James Moffat fell down the order with two laps remaining as he skated sideways through Turns 3 and 4, being forced slightly wide by his GRM teammate Tom Davies.
The slow exit saw Moffat drop well down the order as several cars surged past down the long back straight.
The action for Davies didn’t stop there as he made contact with Harrison Sellars at Turn 9, forcing the Mustang off and tumbling down the order.
Hughes and Tracey continued to battle for third position on the final lap, while chaos erupted back in the pack.
Hodson and Davies came together at Turn 9 on the last lap, with Ben Bargwanna making heavy contact with Hodson.
Davies was unable to make it to the flag, winding up buried in the gravel trap, while Hodson was able to limp home, pulling up just past the finish line.
Bargwanna (#97 Mustang) brought his car home in sixth with significant front bodywork damage, ahead of Moffat (#34 Camaro), and Demellweek (#36 Mustang) in eighth.
Tyler Cheney (#38 Camaro) came home in ninth, and Smith (#11 Camaro) rounded out the top 10.
The Trans Am Cup Series returns on Sunday for the first of two more races at 11:40am AEDT.
