The UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has been caught on camera taking a tumble as he attempted to run a quick single while batting at Pigotts sports ground in Antigua.

Mr Burnham was wearing an England cricket shirt paired with black jeans and trainers, as he slotted one into a gap and took off on a single.

But half way down the wicket he quickly changed his mind and slipped up while turning back towards his crease.

“My running between the wickets needs a bit of work,” he said candidly afterwards.

Mr Burnham will join King Charles and leaders from the Commonwealth’s 56 member states in the Carribean, where he will argue that the organisation can play a larger role in tackling global challenges including climate change, economic growth and security.

The UK will also announce a £40 million investment into critical infrastructure in the Caribbean over the next three years.

The king will open the summit and while he is expected to mention slavery, he will also focus on bringing people together to tackle present challenges.

“His Majesty’s most significant contribution has been helping to connect leaders, institutions and investors around shared areas of interest and concern,” a palace spokesperson said.
